The Story
“Will they ever have another fighter who writes poems, predicts rounds, beats everybody, makes people laugh, makes people cry, and is as tall and extra-pretty as me?”
The answer is to "no." There won’t be another fighter who measures up to Ali’s athleticism, wit, and humanity.
The Greatest of All Time’s boxing career began when his red Schwinn bicycle was stolen at a Louisville public fair. Afterwards, he happened to wander into a gym and found a local policeman who trained young fighters. The sobbing, skinny 12 year old claimed he wanted to “whup whoever stole my bike.”
The rest is history.
According to the policeman/trainer, Ali worked out every day and was easily the hardest working kid at the gym.
Olympic Gold Medalist and three-time Heavyweight Champion of the World. United Nations Messenger of Peace and recipient of the US Presidential Medal of Freedom. Quick-witted comic who could be sparring in the ring and come up with lines such as: “You a boxer? What kind of boxes do you make?”
Discussing his retirement, Ali himself put it best: “I won’t miss fighting; fighting will miss me.”
